So the news these days seems pretty flooded with reports of the plane crash in Austin, TX.  As i saw the news unfold and eventually went to Stack’s website to read his manifesto I couldn’t help but see some similarities between Joseph Stack and Samuel Byck. A lot of people probably don’t know who Byck  is, I know i wouldn’t if it weren’t for “The Assassination of Richard Nixon” with Sean Penn.  This movie is essentially a “documentary” (not really) where Byck monologues most of the time from his tapes he sent to the famous composer Bernstein.  Now, I don’t think Byck’s tapes were ever released for the general public, but if I could guess what was in them it would probably have sounded something like what Stack wrote on his website.

What he wrote was essentially a deranged rant in which he shows his hatred and anger, mostly at the government.  The thing is, he doesn’t really clarify where he stands.  He obviously doesn’t like government spending, he feels like the middle class is shat upon (which is probably true), he thinks healthcare is terrible, he doesn’t have any retirement funds.. etc. The thing is, he seems to think he is a communist, yet he is talking about how the lower class is so shat upon by the government… but it’s pretty much the worst in communism. you can’t bring the lower class up so the only option is to kill them.

Anyways… enough about that.  All that to say, he was obviously very troubled, it’s sad that he felt so strongly that he had to take his hatred out on normal people like himself who were just trying to make some money.  He must have felt like “V,” nobly blowing himself up to send a message to the mindless zombies of the world, yet in killing himself and writing his diatribe he really just said one thing: “i am an idiot.” C’mon Joe… you really think the government is the source of all your problems?  Really?  It’s easy to blame someone else for your misfortune, but it’s time people just realize it is your OWN DAMN FAULT. That is all.

I can’t help but feel bad for the man, but anyone who takes out their own pain on the innocent deserves to rot.

IF you enjoy the Olympics, as I do, you are probably watching them these days.  If you are finding them just a bit heavy, let us suggest a solution: every time you hear the word “redemption” take a shot.  You will be toasted in very little time.
